Today of all days I’m happy to contribute to the 2nd Wonderful Grace Kelly Blogathon hosted by my friend Ginnie! And may I mention that today Nov 12 2016 is Grace Kelly’s 87th birthday- And of course she will forever be beautiful and elegant!
My topic this year (as last year I did Mogambo) will focus on Grace as a Style Icon. Because I already wrote about some of her wonderful Edith Head numbers, This here post will be centered more around Princess Grace.
Grace Kelly was born a gorgeous lady. By the time she married and became Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco, she was already a famous actress and used to being in the public eye. Naturally her hightened place on the world stage only made her more well known to people and with that came the status of “fashion Icon”.
Grace’s debut on the international fashion stage came the day she married Prince Rainier (both civilly and religiously). MGM designer Helen Rose (who did her outfits for Mogambo and High Society) was selected to create both of her gowns.
Her religious wedding gown transcends time- for even today, brides all over the world look to her for inspiration (even the Duchess of Cambridge took inspiration for her wedding dress!).
As the Princess of Monaco, Grace was able to use her status to promote some of the most famous labels. A few of her most famous looks from the history of her reign include:
This Givenchy green day dress when meeting with President and Mrs Kennedy.
This lovely ensemble
This Chanel number!
This super casual but still well put together outfit (LUUUVVV YOUR SCARF GRACE!!!)
Last but not least, it wouldn’t be a proper post on Grace Kelly if I didn’t mention her famous Hermes bag named for her!
Although Grace was introduced to the bag on the set of Dial M for Murder, the bag (originally called the Sac à dépêches bag) wasn’t closely associated with her until after she married Prince Rainier. She iconicly used the bag to hide her baby bump from the press when she was pregnant with Princess Caroline, and soon enough it was re-named in her honor!
Today Grace Kelly continues to inspire women around the world with her simple, yet elegant look. She might have not been flashy, but she always looked the part, and developed a personal style that worked for everything. She never looks “dated” in any photo she’s in– and that is the true definition of style icon. In short, Grace will forever be classic and is my inspiration when it comes shopping!
